the nra has been chastened by it. the whole gang is here, ana kasparian, michael shure, ben mankiewicz. so at least they have suspended their twitter account--wow. they're not on facebook any more. apparently they feel a little embarrassed. and when meet the press asked 31 of the most pro gun rights senators to come on this sunday, none of them agreed to come on. it's nice to know that they're slightly embarrassed at the fact that they have the wrong position, and their position led to a lot more people being killed. during the election the nra was not embarrassed at all. they ran ads like this against obama. >> in the debate obama slipped up and revealed his real plan. >> part of it is seeing if we can get an assault weapons ban reintroduced. >> obama's national gun ban would outlaw common rifles including rifles used by law abideing citizens for hunting target shooting and self defense, and obama even opened the door to a handgun ban the same obama who backed bans against handguns. he's targeting gun owners. defend freedom. defeat obama. >> cenk: almost none that have was true. back in i

a conservative republican who received the nra's highest ratings over four terms in congress. i saw this debate over guns as a powerful symbolic struggle between individual rights and government control. and you know what? in the years after waco and ruby ridge, the symbolism of that debate seemed even more powerful to me. but the symbols of that ideological struggle, they've been shattered by the harvest's own from violent, mind-numbing video games and gruesome hollywood movies that dangerously desensitize those who struggle with mental health challenges. and then add in military-styled weapons and high-capacity magazines to that equation, and tragedy can never be too far behind. you know, there's no easy ideological way forward. if it were only that simple as to blame hollywood or the nra or insufficient funding for mental health, then our task would be completed in no time. but i come to you this morning with a heavy heart and no easy answers. still, i've spent the past few days grasping for solutions and struggling for answers. while daring to question my own long-held belief on these subje

and marketers of guns and ammunition. it is a sister organization to the better known nra which represents the interests of gun owners. the nra advocates on behalf of the customers and the nssf on behalf of the manufacturers. of course, their interests intersect on many issues, and the upper hand in hand on many issues. what was striking to me is the nssf is based in this placid exurbs of new york, the san with the nra is based in the bucolic confines of fairfax, virginia. i don't think there's anything particularly remarkable about the geographic proximity between shooting tragedy beyond the fact that it shows us that guns really are normal and routine part of american life. it is not hold up in some castle behind barbed wire and machine guns, but in the building you might think is a medical professional building up on a hill that looks very innocuous. guns are not exceptional in the united states, they are the norm. >> put them in the context globally. compare canada, germany, australia. where do we stand when it comes to gun deaths in america? >> our gun homicide rates is greater by ord
